Rays Win, 7-6
|
The Tampa Bay Rays had to overcome a big game from New York left fielder Willie Serrano to leave Yankee Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 7-6. Serrano was 1-2 with a triple and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Tampa Bay reliever Erik Lepore picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Bob Lattimer took the loss. Tampa Bay, at 26-28, occupies third place in the American League East Division.
Dan Lamle was 1-3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Tampa Bay. With one out and the game tied in the top of the sixth inning, Lamle, who is tied for 7th in the AL in bases on balls with 26, had a clutch at-bat. Facing New York hurler Ben McKie, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rays a 7-6 lead.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Lamle. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
