Minnesota had no answer for New York Mets starter Mike Rutz, who flummoxed Twins hitters as the Mets cruised to victory, 7-1. The third-place Mets bumped their record to 25-28.

Rutz subdued the Minnesota offense. The New York right-hander allowed a mere 3 hits over 8 innings, while fanning 9. His season record goes to 4-3 with the win.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Rutz said.
