Cardinals Clip Giants, 1-0
|
The Johnson City Cardinals found a way to sneak past the San Francisco (Rk+) Giants, 1-0, in 10 innings. Johnson City pitcher Craig Kise, for one, had a standout performance. The winner in relief was Matt Spiess. He is now 2-2. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. At 34-15, the Cardinals claim first place in the West.
Johnson City used the timely hitting of Justin Wilson to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Johnson City manager Francisco Zamarripa.
