Yankees Secure 4-2 Win
|
The New York Yankees scooped up a win at Yankee Stadium, dumping the Boston Red Sox, 4-2. Dan Simon, who led the AL in ERA with 2.81 in 2111, was essential to his team's success. The winner was Simon. He threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Justin Gerrity. The second-place Yankees lifted their record to 31-25.
The Red Sox had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Yankees going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the fan favorite Steve Marston came to the plate. Marston hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 fastball from Boston hurler Justin Gerrity. It was Marston's 8th home run of the year.
"We did enough to win," said Marston.
