Pirates Take Nail-Biter Over Mets
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Mets, 6-5, in 10 innings. Doing his part was shortstop Pat Wilson, who went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. The losing streak for New York has now reached 4 games.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Pittsburgh designated hitter Kurt Villarreal, facing Chris Tresidder, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Pirates the 6-5 win.
"If you're not prepared, it's not pressure you feel, it's fear," mused Pittsburgh manager Merlyn Evans.
