Cardinals Beat Braves, 3-1, Behind Palomino
|
The home team was supported by a raucous crowd at Howard Johnson Field.
The Johnson City Cardinals topped the Danville Braves, 3-1, in Appalachian League action at Howard Johnson Field. The standout performance belonged to Johnson City pitcher and Phoenix, Arizona, native Julio Palomino. Earning his 4th save for Johnson City was Jim Benoit.
The standout performance belonged to 18-year-old Palomino. With his baby face, he looked more like someone starting for a high school team than for the Cardinals. His performance, however, was nothing short of top-notch. The youngster dominated the Braves, striking out 11 and scattering 3 hits over 7.2 innings. Palomino is now 2-4 on the season.
"Julio approached every single pitch he made with total conviction," said Johnson City manager Francisco Zamarripa.
The second-place Cardinals now have a record of 30-24.
