The San Diego (Rk+) Padres knocked off the Bristol Pirates, 4-1, in Appalachian League action at Devault Memorial Stadium. San Diego (Rk+) pitcher and Naguanagua, Venezuela, native Hugo Gomez had an outstanding performance. Gomez, now 6-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Picking up his 8th save was 20-year old left-handed pitcher Tim Richmond.

Ricardo Rivera could have done some damage in the bottom of the eighth. With Bristol trailing 4-1, the Pirates had a runner on 1st. But Rivera lined out.
