Johnson City Dealt 5-0 Defeat
|
The Princeton Rays trumped the Johnson City Cardinals, 5-0, at H.P. Hunnicutt Field. Princeton third baseman David Whitfield was terrific. He was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Princeton currently is in first place in the East at 40-20.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Rays going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old first baseman Hector Guzman came to the plate. Guzman hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 slider from Johnson City hurler Jose Rebolledo. It was Guzman's 2nd double of the year.
"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Whitfield, cracking a smile.
