The San Francisco (Rk+) Giants downed the Bluefield Blue Jays, 5-1, at Bowen Field. Stellar pitching by Bryan Townsend had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2107 draft, handcuffed his opponent all game. Townsend, now 4-5, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing no runs. The save went to Sam Rollins, number 4 for him.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Austin Clouser? The San Francisco (Rk+) left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Giants on top, 3-0. For the game, Clouser had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"When I throw strikes I'm good, if I don't I'm not very good," said Townsend. "So I just have to throw strikes."

The second-place Giants now sit at 32-33.
