Mets Win, 6-0, Versus Pirates
|
The Kingsport Mets downed the Bristol Pirates, 6-0, at Devault Memorial Stadium. Stellar pitching by Jimmy Silverstein had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Silverstein yielded no runs over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-0. Kingsport now has a record of 37-26 with the win.
The Mets got a big at-bat from shortstop Nathan Manning. For the game, Manning was 3-5 with a triple and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 8th double of the season gave Kingsport a 1-0 lead.
Manning attributed the win to his team's "dogged determination."
