The Boston (Rk+) Red Sox got a marvelous performance from pitcher Angel Villegas. The right-hander kept the Burlington offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 4-1 Boston (Rk+) victory at Ballpark of Cool Valley. The winning pitcher was Villegas, now 2-1. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Brandon Coombs earned the save, his 2nd, for the Red Sox.
Robby Dowd had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Boston (Rk+) leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a sinker from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Barney and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 3-0.
"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Red Sox manager Jay Mizrahi.
The Red Sox are now 31-36.
