Bluefield Slaps 3-1 Loss on Princeton
|
The Bluefield Blue Jays downed the Princeton Rays, 3-1, at Bowen Field. Stellar pitching by Brian Schaller had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the APP with a 0.93 WHIP, handcuffed his opponent all game. Brian Bunting closed the door for Bluefield, picking up his 3rd save of the year. The Blue Jays improved to 43-29.
Mendu Varoshi had a big 2-run home run for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Bluefield leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a splitter from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Luis Montoya and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Blue Jays on top, 3-0.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Varoshi.
