Cardinals Claim Late Win
|
The Johnson City Cardinals topped the Pulaski Yankees, 4-2, in Appalachian League action at Howard Johnson Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Johnson City pitcher Steve Waldrop. Ken Burden closed it out for his 5th save. The 5th-place Cardinals now sit at 34-36.
Johnson City took a 4-2 lead on Marty Perrin's 9th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Perrin hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Pulaski pitcher Jim Unknown visibly frustrated.
"Every time I step on the mound, I want to go out there and compete and bring my best game," said Waldrop.
