Orioles Chop Down Twins, 4-2
|
The Baltimore (Rk+) Orioles defeated the Elizabethton Twins, 4-2. Catcher Brooke Rutherford deserved a large share of the credit. Rutherford went 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Orioles. Picking up the win was Rich Baker. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 8 and walked 0. Jim Unknown closed the door for Baltimore (Rk+), picking up his 1st save of the year.
Rutherford contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Baltimore (Rk+) in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Rutherford took a slider from Jorge Galvan and stroked the home run to right. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Orioles to leap in front, 2-1.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Baltimore (Rk+) skipper Landon Moon. "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
The Orioles are now 36-33.
