Rays Fall to Astros Late
|
The Greeneville Astros had to overcome a fine effort from Princeton pitcher Matthew Farrand to win, 5-3, at Pioneer Park. Farrand went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Greeneville reliever Chris Phipps picked up the win, raising his record to 1-3. Nick Greaney was tagged with the loss. Matt Archibald was credited with the save for Greeneville, his 1st of the season.
The Astros beat the Rays in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Alex Paz produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Nick Greaney, Paz gave his team the lead, 5-3, when he hit a 2-run single.
"Whenever I help the team," said Paz, "it sort of justifies my place on the roster."
The last-place Astros sport a record of 29-43.
