Twins Lose 2-1 Decision to Burlington
|
The Burlington Royals did just enough to sneak past the Elizabethton Twins, 2-1, at Burlington Athletic Stadium. Burlington pitcher Juan Becerra, in particular, had a standout performance. Becerra picked up the win for Burlington, going 5.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 3-7. The Royals raised their record to 24-48.
The Twins had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Royals going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old second baseman Eddie Aguilar came to the plate. Aguilar hit a run-scoring double on a 2-1 curveball from Elizabethton hurler Bernie Gilleland. It was Aguilar's 5th double of the year.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Becerra told the Burlington Daily. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
