Rays Win, 9-4, Extend Hot Streak
|
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 9-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to center fielder Mike Grimm. Grimm was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Rays on the day. By defeating Washington, the first-place Rays improved to 39-20.
Alex Santiago had a big 2-run home run for the Rays in the bottom of the second inning. With Tampa Bay trailing 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Bill Freake and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Rays on top, 2-1.
"Mike was ready to go. Big day for him," said Tampa Bay manager Kyle Delgado.
