Starting pitcher Jeff Rotondi pitched well enough to help the San Francisco (Rk+) Giants beat the Bristol Pirates, 4-3. Rotondi yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-4. San Francisco (Rk+) goes to 49-29, Bristol to 30-48.
San Francisco (Rk+) used a well-timed hit by Ed Najar to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Giants ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Bristol manager Yamada Tani said, following the tough loss.
