The Bluefield Blue Jays defeated the Kingsport Mets, 5-4, at Hunter Wright Stadium. Bluefield shortstop Dave Hurst had a superb performance. He went 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Bluefield reliever Carlos Rodriguez picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Shane Hershey shouldered the loss. Bluefield is third in the East with a record of 42-36.

Bluefield used a timely hit from Alfonso Ernesto to get the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Bluefield manager Chris Jeffreys.
