In a low-scoring affair between the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers, pitcher Steve Johnson was the difference between victory and defeat. The Boston right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Red Sox win. Carlos Lorenzo picked up the save, his 9th. The second-place Rangers now sit at 33-26.

Rick Baylor had a direct impact on the outcome. Baylor contributed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put Boston up, 2-0.
