7-5 Loss Extends Washington Skid
|
Baltimore played host to Washington at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The Baltimore Orioles weathered an outstanding game by Washington third baseman Jose Orozco to topple the Nationals, 7-5. Orozco went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Steve Whiteside was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Jonathan Wells earned the save for Baltimore, his 1st of the year.
The Orioles got a big at-bat from second baseman Jonathan Skye. For the game, Skye was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Baltimore a 5-2 lead.
"This kind of win will certainly make our fans happy," Skye told the Baltimore Bulletin.
Washington now has a 6-game losing streak.
