Washington Tacks 3-1 Loss on Pittsburgh
|
The Washington Nationals used a great performance from Ian Vick, who is tied for 8th in the NL in innings pitched with 84.0, to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-1, at Nationals Park. Vick got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 4 hits and walked 3 over 6.2 innings. He allowed no runs. With the win, Washington goes to 36-25, while the Pirates fall to 37-24.
Joaquin Reyes had a big 2-run double for the Nationals in the bottom of the third inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Rich McMillan, who is tied for 6th in the NL in strikeouts with 87, and swatted a double to center. It was his 19th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nationals ahead, 3-0.
"My gosh almighty, Ian was tremendous," said Washington manager Doug Graff.
