Thrash Stars as Guardians Top Mets, 8-4
|
The Cleveland Guardians beat the New York Mets, 8-4, at Progressive Field. The Guardians got a fine performance from left fielder Billy Thrash, who went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Manny Rodriguez. He tossed 101 pitches over 7.1 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit. Cleveland, at 25-35, occupies last place in the American League Central Division.
With Cleveland leading 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Thrash came up to bat against New York pitcher Gil Hormann. Thrash hit a sinker to right-center for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Guardians on top, 7-0.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said New York manager Matt Moore.
