Astros Edge Yankees 2-1 to Open R1
|
The Houston Astros slipped past the New York Yankees by the score of 2-1 today at Yankee Stadium in the first game of the Wildcard Series. Astros had to overcome a strong outing from Yankees starting left-hander Juan Fernandez, who threw 6 innings of shutout ball in the loss. With a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series, the Astros will have two chances to close out the Yankees.
Houston used the clutch hitting of Kevin Innerst to capture the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Astros ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.
"We found a way to get it done," Innerst said.
The next game is set to be played Saturday, October 7th, 2062. The scheduled starters for the game are Alex Batista for the New York Yankees and Chris Soles for the the Houston Astros.
