The Oakland Athletics converted a terrific effort from starter Dean Thomas into a win over the Texas Rangers at O.co Coliseum. The Athletics won the game by a final score of 4-2. In 6.1 innings, Thomas surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Oakland's record now stands at 39-22, placing them first in the American League West Division.
In the bottom of the sixth, Oakland first baseman Josh Nightingale gave his team the lead. With two out and a runner on 1st, Dirty hit his 5th home run of the year. Texas pitcher Rod Pineda surrendered it. With that, the Athletics jumped in front, 2-1.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Texas manager Stephen Gesualdi. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
