Reds Topple Pirates, 6-1
|
Earl Boivin left his imprint on the 6-1 Cincinnati win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boivin, who is tied for 4th in the NL in stolen bases with 18, was 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Matt Bell got the win, improving to 4-4. He held the Pirates to 1 run on 2 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Cincinnati is now 42-22. Pittsburgh is 29-33.
Making an impact for the home team was Jonathan Nelson. In the bottom of the fifth, the 2095 Most Valuable Player Award winner had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 3-1, Reds.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Nelson. "And not try to do too much."
