Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh at Great American Ball Park, escaping with a 4-3 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Gerardo Machado. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. With the victory, the Reds upped their record to 39-27.

Had Machado not come through in the bottom of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Machado hit a 2-run single. The Reds took the lead, 4-3, and never looked back.

"Job one," said Machado, "is get the job done."
