Road Win Lifts Birmingham to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
The 24-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Montgomery Biscuits worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Tony Petrie seemed like a risky move for the Biscuits, but it was one of the few things that went right at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium today. Petrie tossed 7 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Montgomery dropped a 2-0 decision. With the win, Birmingham took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 Round 1.
In the top of the fourth, with Birmingham leading 1-0, left fielder Javier Portilla hit a run-scoring double. The hit came off Tony Petrie and put the Barons ahead, 2-0.
"At least it was over quickly," Biscuits manager Jalen Ford said. "We'll just have to try our luck again."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery.
