Sanchez, Mavericks Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
The High Desert Mavericks started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a walk-off in the 12th inning. High Desert took the 3-2 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Chris Sanchez. The left-hander threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-5 series.

The decisive blow was delivered by Joel Bednarz in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 24-year old right-handed pitcher Luis Ramirez to win the game for High Desert. The home crowd went nuts.

"You never want to start a series with a loss, but I saw a lot of good things today," Quakes manager Dave Eldon said. "I'm not worrying. Yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Stater Bros. Stadium in Adelanto.
