Braves Tagged with 7-3 Loss
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Atlanta Braves by a score of 7-3. Leading the way was right fielder Dan Shell. Shell went 4-4 with 3 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Pirates. Pittsburgh reliever Ed Negron got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Matt Patras was tagged with the loss. Steve Obuch was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities.
Joey Noles drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate for Pittsburgh. The 26-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Matt Patras. It was his 24th walk of the season.
"Where are all my critics now?" said Noles. "Tell them they know where to find me."
With the win, Pittsburgh goes to 32-34, while the Braves fall to 35-32.
