Generals Clip Smokies, 5-4, in R1 Contest

The Jackson Generals took down the Tennessee Smokies by the score of 5-4 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Round 1. The largest share of the credit belongs to Jackson starter Jesus Cruz, who threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball.
Kent McClendon was 1 for 2 with a walk, while scoring 2 for Jackson. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, McClendon, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2107 draft, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Tennessee hurler Matt Holman, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Generals a 5-4 lead.
"Whenever I help the team," said McClendon, "I feel like I earned my paycheck."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Smokies Park in Knoxville.
