The Lake Elsinore Storm powered past the hometown Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 3-2, in the opener of the Round 1 at LoanMart Field. Lake Elsinore starting pitcher Hugo Gomez threw 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Storm now lead the series 1-0.
John Batt had a direct impact on the outcome. Batt contributed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put Lake Elsinore up, 3-0.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Lake Elsinore manager Danny Morton said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga.
