The High Desert Mavericks faced a tough opponent in Lancaster JetHawks center fielder Érico Harper, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Round 1, which they now lead 1-0. The Mavericks won, 6-5, at Stater Bros. Stadium, despite the efforts of Harper, who went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2.

Mauricio Elizondo went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs for High Desert. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Elizondo had a clutch at-bat. Facing Lancaster hurler Jeremy Goss, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mavericks a 6-5 lead.

"It's hard to overstate how much this mattered to us, especially in a short series," High Desert manager Jose Sierra said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Stater Bros. Stadium in Adelanto.
