The High Desert Mavericks outclassed the Lancaster JetHawks in all facets of the game throughout the CAL Round 1.

The end result was a High Desert series sweep to advance to the Round 2, capped off by a 7-2 win in the final game.

"We're a bit surprised it's over in a sweep, to be honest with you," said third baseman Guillermo Fernandez, who hit .545 in the series.

Fernandez's standout effort garnered him MVP honors. He also put up a .583 on-base percentage and had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.

The High Desert Mavericks don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Bakersfield Blaze - Visalia Rawhide series. Visalia leads the series 2 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
