Gutierrez, Rays Wallop Royals in Game 2 of R2
Riding the 3-hit performance of second baseman Tyler Gutierrez, the Princeton Rays stopped the visiting Burlington Royals, 8-1, in Game 2 of the Round 2. Gutierrez was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Rays, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

Tied up with the Royals in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Rays got a boost from left fielder Scott Vollmann. With the bases loaded, Vollmann saw a first pitch fastball from Jorge Lainez and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Princeton on top, 3-1.

"It felt like they almost stopped play a couple times, but it just held off," Vollmann said of the rain that threatened throughout much of the game. "Not great conditions for playoff baseball."

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Burlington Athletic Stadium in Burlington.
