ValleyCats Win Again, Extend Series Lead to 3-0
|
The 21-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Vermont Lake Monsters worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Andrew Hughes seemed like a risky move for the Lake Monsters, but it was one of the few things that went right at Centennial Field. Hughes tossed 6.2 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Vermont dropped a 4-1 decision. With the win, Tri-City took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 Round 2.
Tri-City relied on the hitting of Brandon Davis to pick up the win. The center fielder ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the ValleyCats on top, 3-1. For the game, Davis had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Tri-City manager Alex Ordonez.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Centennial Field in Burlington.
