Cardinals Claim 8-2 Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Minnesota Twins, 8-2, in National League action at Busch Stadium. The standout performance belonged to St. Louis pitcher and Brighton, Colorado, native Darius Shaheed. Shaheed, now 5-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. St. Louis currently is in first place in the National League Central Division at 40-27.
Jose Jaramillo had a big 3-run home run for the Cardinals in the bottom of the first inning. With St. Louis trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a changeup from Alan Weirauch, who finished 3rd in the AL in strikeouts with 233 in 2104, and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Cardinals on top, 3-1.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Shaheed told the St. Louis Times.
