Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Hawks, 2-1
The Boise Hawks moved to within one game of the Round 3, downing the visiting Kansas City (SS-A) Royals at Memorial Stadium by a score of 2-1. Hawks right-hander Rafael Toro had a strong outing in which he threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Hawks a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Round 2.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Hawks had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when right fielder Tom Schwerin hit a 2-run home run. The home run came off Felipe Consuegra and made the score 2-0, Hawks. Schwerin was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We're one game closer to our goal," Boise manager Rob Procise said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."

Game 6 is scheduled for Saturday at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls.
