Wild Card Game 1 Victory for Jones and St. Louis
|
The St. Louis Cardinals started the Wild Card in style, downing the visiting Washington Nationals at Busch Stadium by a score of 6-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Cardinals left-hander Elijah Jones threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball.
Jones was in the zone, shutting down Washington hitters over 8 innings. Jones, who threw 113 pitches, allowed 1 run on 4 hits. He also tallied 8 punchouts.
"Elijah looked like he had more finish on his ball," said St. Louis manager Leyland Thomas.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
