Chicago Falls Again, 8-2
|
The 5-RBI night of center fielder C.J. Newman, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in runs scored with 50, helped the Tampa Bay Rays triumph, 8-2, over the Chicago White Sox. Nick Miller got the win, improving to 5-3. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Tampa Bay is in second place in the American League East Division with a record of 36-33.
Newman contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Tampa Bay in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Newman took a sinker from Jon Mendez and stroked the home run to right. His 9th home run of the season allowed the Rays to leap in front, 4-1.
"From the last whatever, five, six, seven games, there's really only one way to go and that's up," said losing manager Bryce Reigns.
