With designated hitter Randy Donahue leading the charge, the San Diego Padres got a road win over the Chicago Cubs, 13-2, in Game 1 of the Wild Card. Donahue was 2 for 2 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 at Wrigley Field to help San Diego take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.

Darric Kane hit a bases-clearing triple off Sean Price in the top of the sixth, which put the Padres in front, 3-1. Kane had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 3.

"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Chicago manager Vin Calia. "They pounded us."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Pound at Seaport Village in San Diego.
