Cincinnati Takes 1-0 Series Lead Behind 4 RBIs from SS Alessi
|
At 36, Allan Alessi knows he may not have many playoff appearances left, so he was determined to make it memorable. Mission accomplished.
The Cincinnati Reds shortstop was 3-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice to help his club get past the Colorado Rockies, 10-8, in Game 1 of the Division Series at Great American Ball Park. With the win, Cincinnati takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With no one out, Alessi hit a curveball from Dean White for a 2-run home run. The Reds, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This place sure got loud," said BJ Gorman, the Cincinnati manager.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
