The St. Louis Cardinals started the Division Series in style, winning on the road against the San Diego Padres at The Pound at Seaport Village by a score of 5-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Cardinals right-hander Bill McEnerney threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball.

Rich Rivas, the 14th overall pick in the 2105 draft, helped out the St. Louis cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the left fielder went 1 for 4 with a walk.

"Every team in baseball loses," Padres manager Tim Lentz said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Pound at Seaport Village in San Diego.
