San Diego Tops Chicago, 2-0, Claims 2-1 Series Lead
|
The 24-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Chicago Cubs worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Aaron Morton seemed like a risky move for the Cubs, but it was one of the few things that went right at Wrigley Field. Morton tossed 7.2 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Chicago dropped a 2-0 decision. With the win, San Diego took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Championship Series.
San Diego used the hitting of Randy Wilson to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Padres on top, 2-0. For the game, Wilson had 1 home run and 2 singles in 3 at-bats.
"I really like what we did out there today," Wilson said after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
