Phillies Edge Past Nationals, 4-3
|
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Washington Nationals, 4-3, in National League action at Citizens Bank Park. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia pitcher and Red Bluff, California, native Jimmy Bruder. Roger (Eben) Penn picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Dallas Cart suffered the loss. Philadelphia sits in first place in the National League East Division at 39-28.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Philadelphia pinch hitter Alex Espinoza, facing Dallas Cart, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Phillies the 4-3 win.
"We're not really clicking on anything right now," said Washington manager Doug Graff.
