Guardians Upend Royals, 5-0
|
The Cleveland Guardians downed the Kansas City Royals, 5-0, at Progressive Field. Starring for Cleveland was pitcher Greg Pence. Pence got the win, improving to 2-1. He gave up 3 hits and walked 3 over 7.2 innings. He allowed no runs. Cleveland, at 23-44, occupies last place in the American League Central Division.
Brian Ellis had a big 2-run home run for the Guardians in the bottom of the second inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from Matt Heidt, who is tied for 7th in the AL in wins with 7, and punished it. The result was his 15th home run of the season, which put the Guardians on top, 3-0.
"It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Ellis told the Cleveland Herald.
