Blue Jays Rough Up Red Sox, 11-3
|
The Toronto Blue Jays romped over the Boston Red Sox, 11-3, at Rogers Centre. Vic Rivera led the way. He was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for Toronto. Mike Williams went 5.1 innings for Toronto to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs. He scattered 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. His record improves to 7-3. Bryan Bassett earned the save for Toronto, his 4th of the year.
Mike Beiriger hit a 3-run home run off John Baines in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Blue Jays ahead, 6-3. In addition to the homer, Beiriger had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Toronto manager Dan Silva.
The Blue Jays are now 45-27, while the Red Sox fall to 30-41.
