Montoya Schools Philadelphia in 4-0 New York Triumph
|
The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-0, at Citi Field. Starting pitcher Miguel Montoya was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. John Rood wrapped it up, recording his 16th save. The Mets saw their win-loss record go to 32-38. At the same time, the Phillies fell to 20-50.
It was a masterful performance from the popular Montoya, who notched 7 strikeouts in 8 innings while allowing 6 hits. Montoya, who is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, goes to 5-4 on the year with 78 strikeouts.
"We have a lot of confidence in Miguel," said New York manager Matt Moore.
