Nationals Drop 5-2 Decision
|
Good production from designated hitter Jesse Wheaton helped the Pittsburgh Pirates topple the Washington Nationals, 5-2. Wheaton was 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Pirates. Pittsburgh reliever Ian Roth snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Andy Gill shouldered the loss. Willie Lopez recorded the save, his 14th.
Wheaton had a game-changing triple in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 fastball from Alvin Janosky, he banged a 2-run triple to left, giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead. It was the 1st triple of the year for Wheaton.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Wheaton.
Pittsburgh currently is in second place in the National League East Division at 42-31.
