The Texas Rangers got a marvelous performance from pitcher Kelan Purcell. The right-hander kept the Los Angeles offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-2 Texas victory at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Purcell, now 9-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The 4th-place Angels dropped to 33-39.

Felipe Fernandez had a big run-scoring double for the Rangers in the top of the fourth inning. With Texas leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Mike Cerretani, who finished 4th in the AL in innings pitched with 205.0 in 2104, and swatted a double to right. It was his 23rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rangers ahead, 3-0.

"We put our best foot forward tonight," said a smiling Fernandez.
